Bret Michael Sychak was born in Butler, Pennsylvania, on March 15, 1963. He was raised in Mechanicsburg village. From his paternal grandfather, Bret belongs to Irish, German, English, and Swiss descent. Michael attended Mechanicsburg area Senior high school. In his early childhood, he fell sick and was hospitalized for weeks. However, he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 6. As a high school teen, he joined his first-ever rock band. Eventually, people started calling him by the stage name ‘Bret Michaels’.

In his teens, Bret started playing guitar and formed his band with Rikki Rockett, David Besselman, and Bobby Dall. Due to the differences, Bessleman left the band and was replaced by Matt smith.
